UUM LEAPS 80 POSITIONS IN THE EMERGING ECONOMIES UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2021

UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) leaps 80 positions in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021 when it is listed at the 121st position compared to the 201-250 position last year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said this latest position will allow UUM to realize its aspiration of becoming the Eminent Management University not only at the national level but also internationally.

When met herewith, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his elation and gratification over the achievement in which the university continues to show excellent performance with encouraging leap in its position.  In fact, the subjects which were announced by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 recently also showed a significant improvement namely Accounting and Finance from 251-300 to 201-250; Business and Management Studies from 251-300 to 201-250 and Economics and Econometrics from 351-400 to 301-350. Not only that, one main subject, Social Science and Management from 401-450 to 340, while another subject, Computer Science and Information Systems made its debut at 601-650 position.

"UUM will continue to strive to improve its position whilst continuing in its quest to stand out in the coming year even though the world is still hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I hope this achievement will also be a motivation and inspiration to all UUM denizens to work harder so that we can put UUM on the right track while at the same time make this University comparable to the world's leading universities in line with the slogan, We Are Global," he said.

Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021 continues to adopt 13 performance indicators for evaluation based on five core indicators namely teaching (30 per cent), research (30 per cent), citations (20 per cent), international surveys (10 per cent) and industry results (10 per cent).

Times Higher Education lists countries classified by the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) as ‘advance emerging’, ‘secondary emerging’ and ‘frontier’ in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021.
